大地に抱かれる椅子

The chair embraced by the earth

「大地の芸術祭　越後妻有アートトリエンナーレ」の拠点地のひとつ・松代エリアの山中に、作品巡りの休憩所として計画した長さ12mの大きな椅子。段上に整形された空地はかつての稲架掛け場であったが、雑草に埋もれて忘れられていた。農民たちの作り出したこの地形をそのまま椅子にするように、大地に嵌め込むかたちで曲線、曲面で構成した。収穫期の稲のような色をした椅子は、当地の左官職人による自然石洗い出し仕上げである。この場所からは農舞台、ほくほく線などの街並みがよく見える。付近の環境改善のための長期的計画「大地に抱かれるフィールドミュージアム」の一作目として、2024年の会期に合わせて制作された。

This large 12m-long chair was designed as a rest area for visitors touring the artworks in the mountains of the Matsudai area, one of the areas for the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale. The stepped terrain was once a place for drying rice, but it had become buried in weeds and forgotten. The chair is designed like the terrain created by the farmers, with curved lines and surfaces that are set into the ground. The chair, colored to match the golden hue of rice during harvest season, has a natural stone finish created by a local plasterer. From this location, there is a good view of the cityscape, including Nohbutai and the Hokuhoku Line. It was created to coincide with the 2024 event as the first piece in the "Field Museum Embraced by the Earth" long-term plan to improve the surrounding environment.
