NTHU Literature Museum

台湾の国立清華大学に新築した、教員室および展示・劇場スペースをもつ文学研究所の研究拠点。小山のようになっていた地形を掘り下げ、そこに嵌め込んだ建物は、隣接する道からすべての階へ直接アクセスできる。元の地形はキャンパスロードから湖への視線を遮るものであったが、地上階に通り抜けできるトンネル状の通路をつくることで湖へのアクセスを容易にし、学生や職員がより自然に溢れたキャンパスのポテンシャルを享受できるよう計画されている。上階の研究室は外周部に配置され、湖、山、木々など各部屋ごとに異なる風景を楽しむことができる。暗くなりがちな建物中央には、吹き抜けを通して自然光を地上階まで導いている。
各学部棟が乱立し統一感に乏しいキャンパス内にあって、周囲の木々が育つにつれ周辺環境の一部のような建物になっていくよう考えられている。

A research center for the Institute of Literature was newly built at National Qing Hua University in Taiwan. It includes faculty offices, exhibition space and theater facilities. The building was dug into the hilly terrain and embedded into the ground, with direct access to all floors from the adjacent road. The original terrain blocked the view to the lake from the campus road, but a tunnel-like passageway was created on the ground floor to facilitate access to the lake, allowing students and staff to enjoy the potential of the campus rich in natural surroundings. The upper floor laboratories are located on the periphery, and each room has a different view of the lake, mountains, and trees. Natural light is guided to the ground floor through an atrium in the center of the building, which tends to be dark.

The building is located on a campus where the various faculty buildings are crowded together and lack unity, and it is designed to become a part of the surrounding environment as the surrounding trees grow.
